I have read two of John Harvey's Frank Elder books so far and have really enjoyed them. I decided to go back to the beginning and read his first Charlie Resnick mystery (of twelve) Lonely Hearts. While it is a good book, he definitely matured as a writer and his later books are much better.
My advice, start with the Frank Elder books to love the writer, and that will carry you through the early works.
