Conversations with JT

ON the way to get a haircut for JT and Qatar we have the following conversation.

Qatar: Next year when Gunnar is gone (college) I will get to move downstairs to his room.
Me: We might get a foreign Exchange Student.
Qatar: (Excitedly) A Girl
Me: Why would that matter?
(Now you have to imagine this in the Style of Tom Haverford, because I swear to God that that character is based on JT)
JT: It has to be a HOT girl (wait three beats) so we can all enjoy her.

I am supposed to be indignant

but I am secretly proud.

Whenever we have discrete pieces of meat like steak or chops, Lisa has me cut it all up and evenly distribute it among the kids plates. Lisa and I of course get a whole piece and our own knives, fan-bloody-tastic, I know. As the years have gone by Gunnar has graduated to his own chop and just recently so has Qatar. Qatar is having trouble learning how to hold a knife and fork correctly to cut meat, but we all have to learn sometime. Anyways over dinner we have this conversation:

Qatar: I really like my meat hard.

Gunnar: THAT"S WHAT SHE SAID!

Good parenting*

Always A Proud Moment

When your 12 year old son walks in from school and yells out:

MOM! I need to get some make-up!

That's my boy.

***Qatar is starring as Tweedle Dee in his school's production of Alice in Wonderland.

Conversations with Qatar

At the bank with Lisa:
Qatar: What are those boxes back there?
Lisa: They are safe deposit boxes.
Qatar: What are they for?
Lisa: People put their valuable stuff in them and then come visit it.
Qatar (incredulously) to the teller that has just returned: My mom says people put their stuff in those boxes in back and then come visit it.
Teller (confused): um, yes.
Qatar (almost laughing): What do they do, give them names and check up on them? How have you been Betty the necklace, everything okay? He goes on like this is the silliest thing he has ever heard.
Teller: I have never quite heard it explained that way before.

I suggested later that Qatar is old enough for a little Bourne.

That movie as well as being awesome, will teach him what a safe deposit box is for.

Our New Young Man

Qatar turned twelve last week and we had a nice party with all the family. It would have been nice if we had taken pictures, really nice. Anyways it was fun and we decided spur of the moment to set him apart as a Deacon (we cleared it with the Bishop) so he could attend the Temple that Saturday. Since it was last minute it was a casual dress affair, so Qatar can always know that his Uncle Eric participated while wearing a T-shirt that pictured a fire extinguisher and said "I put Out". That will make a funny story in conference one day.

He did have a party for some of his friends the next day. They spent the night and stayed awake way too late. So late Lisa has decided no one is ever having a sleep over again. So sorry guys, my 39th party is going to be kind of lame this summer.

Here is Qatar and his friends.
