Who Knew
A book about quack doctors and goat testicles could be so good. To restore pep they used to insert goat testicles into your body for $750, if you were well off then you could have human ones harvested from prison death rows for only $5000. The thing I was thinking about is what books will be published 100 years from now about what we are doing for medical treatment??
Charlatan: America's Most Dangerous Huckster, the Man Who Pursued Him, and the Age of Flimflam by Pope Brock is an excellent book on the gullibility of people and those who take advantage of it. Upwards of 80% of common medical ailments will go away on there own, and if you couple that with the placebo effect you soon realize that there is money to be made doing nothing.
Of course the goats weren't always this happy, at least not until the politicians got involved..
